Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta was established in 1979, with Accountancy Department as one of its pioneering departments.
The establishment of Moshood Abiola (formerly Ogun State) Polytechnic was necessitated by the Federal Government White Paper on National Policy on Education, which declared that Technical Education forms the basis of technological development and as such, a greater proportion of education expenditure should continually be devoted to technical education by government, both at the Federal and State levels.
In line with the Ogun State Government belief that the development of technical manpower is one of the reasonable investments that a nation can embark upon for societal transformation, the Ogun State Polytechnic was established under the provisions of section 3 of the law cited as the Ogun State Polytechnic Law No. 8 of 12th June, 1979. The law was later repealed and replaced by a new Edict cited as the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Edict, 1999.
The Polytechnic commenced operation on two temporary campuses, namely: Oke-Egunya and Onikolobo. Movement of all departments from the temporary campuses to the permanent site at Ojere started in April 1982 and was completed in March, 1988.
The department of Accountancy was accredited by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in 1983, while the pioneer students graduated in 1985. These pioneer students enjoyed the accreditation and sat for their ICAN examination a year later. Today, the department is very proud of its noble alumni who have excel in all facets of their endeavor.
The history of the department may not have been precise without mentioning the contributions of the founding fathers who had served at one time or the other as head of department; they are: Mr. O.O. Ooruthiran (Pioneer HOD), Mr. M. O. Agboola (Deceased), Mr. Dada, Mr. M. A. Ademuyiwa, Mr. M.O. Adedokun (Deceased), Mr. R. A. Oduwole, Mr. M . A. Ajayi (an alumnus), Mr. Oluwafemi O.
